Bedtime in a new House
Mother and babies settled into their new home. No comforts yet, just bare boards however the little family managed to find the new nesting box, as yet unused for any purpose.
Four little heads peep out from under the warm, cosy feathers of their mum. Watching the care and concern of this little mother, just a year old herself, has me in awe of Nature.
This morning as I was in the shed with them taking them some food there was a slight scurry on the other side of the back fence, about one metre away. The neighbours have a dog who was obviously sniffing and snuffling on the other side of the fence. He is a pretty good and quiet dog, just like his owners.
Young Mother Hen suddenly made a noise in the back of her throat and immediately her six babies disappeared into the inner sanctum of their little house, and hid in the corner in a huddle. Meantime, Mother Hen stood stock still and on alert waiting to see if there was any danger. After a minute or so, the all clear was sounded and the chickens darted out to join Mum again.
